Use active voice by using active verbs. When the verb is active, the subject of the verb is doing the action. For example, “He threw the ball” is active voice. (“The ball was thrown by him” is passive voice and should be used sparingly.
Change sentence structure to prevent repetition and dullness. Alternate subject-verb pairs so sentences don’t all begin the same way.
Use punctuation to improve the flow of sentence rhythm. For example, maybe a comma would make a sentence read better than the word “and.” Or, try breaking up a long sentence into two.
Read your writing aloud to hear how it will sound to your audience.
